Die Vorteile von Ayurveda bei der Behandlung von Krebs

The Benefits of Ayurveda in Cancer Treatment

In my practice, I regularly meet with patients who are undergoing cancer treatment. Through targeted dietary changes and special Ayurvedic treatments, these patients can often alleviate the symptoms of their therapy, such as nausea or exhaustion, and improve their quality of life.

In this article, as an Ayurvedic physician, I would like to present some ways in which Ayurveda can support cancer patients during treatment. Particularly in the context of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, Ayurveda can help strengthen the body and relieve discomfort.

    The Essentials at a Glance

    • Ayurvedic nutrition can relieve the digestive system during chemotherapy.
    • Natural remedies such as ginger or pomegranate can reduce nausea and discomfort.
    • Ayurveda supports not only the body but also psychological stability.
    • Gentle self-massage such as Abhyanga can soothe and relieve the nervous system.
    • Ayurveda is supportive care and not a substitute for conventional medical treatment.

    Ayurvedic Nutrition During Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy puts a great strain on the body and can severely disturb the digestive system. Ayurveda places great emphasis on individual nutrition that strengthens digestive fire (Agni) and provides the body with vital nutrients.

    • Easily digestible food: Dishes like Kitchari, a stew made from rice and mung beans, are easy to digest and provide valuable energy.
    • Spices to support digestion: Ginger, cumin and coriander can promote digestion and relieve bloating or nausea.
    • Adequate fluids: Warm beverages such as ginger tea or fennel water can help maintain fluid balance and soothe the stomach.

Important: Especially during cancer therapy, nutrition should always be individually tailored to relieve the body, not place additional demands on it.

    Natural Remedies for Nausea

One of the most common symptoms during chemotherapy is nausea. Ayurveda offers some proven ways to provide support here.

    • Ginger: Fresh ginger or ginger tea can reduce nausea and soothe the stomach.
    • Pomegranate: The seeds and juice of pomegranate have a cooling and balancing effect, which can be particularly helpful for those with strong heat sensitivity.
    • Triphala: This traditional Ayurvedic blend of three fruits can help cleanse and harmonize the digestive tract.

    Strengthening the Immune System

A weakened immune system is another challenge for cancer patients. Ayurveda focuses here on adaptogenic plants and tonifying remedies.

    • Ashwagandha: This root is a well-known Rasayana, or rejuvenating remedy, that can strengthen the body's resistance.
    • Turmeric: Thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, turmeric can support the immune system and at the same time help eliminate harmful substances.
    • Chyavanprash: This Ayurvedic tonic made from Amla and other medicinal herbs supports regeneration and stimulates the digestive fire Agni.
    • Amrit Kalash: This spice preparation is particularly suitable during chemotherapy and in the regeneration phase. Its positive effects have been confirmed in several studies in India.

    Psychological Support Through Ayurveda

In addition to the physical burden of the disease, the psychological aspect should not be underestimated. Ayurveda views the mind as inseparable from the body.

    • Meditation and Pranayama: Breathing exercises such as Nadi Shodhana, alternate nostril breathing, and regular meditation can help reduce stress and anxiety.
    • Abhyanga: Self-massage with warm sesame oil or specially tailored Ayurvedic oils promotes relaxation and calms the nervous system.
    • Herbal support: Medicinal herbs such as Brahmi and Shankhpushpi can promote mental clarity and bring inner peace.

From an Ayurvedic perspective: Stability, rest, and loving routines are often just as important as physical support, especially during stressful phases.

    Guide to Self-Massage (Abhyanga)

Abhyanga is a gentle and soothing technique that you can perform yourself at home.

    What you need

    • Sesame oil or a tailored Ayurvedic oil
    • A quiet, warm location
    • 15 to 20 minutes of time

    What to keep in mind

    • Use only pleasantly warm oil, not hot.
    • Massage gently and without pressure.
    • Ideally rest for a while afterwards.

    Step by Step

    1. Prepare the oil: Warm the oil slightly in a water bath.
    2. Find calm: Take a moment to arrive and breathe consciously.
    3. Head and face: Massage gently with minimal pressure.
    4. Arms and legs: Massage with long movements toward the heart.
    5. Belly and chest: Treat belly clockwise, chest gently and circularly.
    6. Feet: Massage the soles of the feet thoroughly and calmly.
    7. Let it work: Leave the oil on your skin for 10 to 15 minutes.

    Ayurveda as Companion, Not Replacement

It is important to emphasize that Ayurveda is not an alternative to conventional medical cancer therapy, but can be a valuable complement. Any Ayurvedic support should be individually tailored to the needs of patients and discussed with their treating physicians.

Important: Ayurveda can support, stabilize, and relieve, but does not replace conventional medical cancer therapy.

    Conclusion

Ayurvedic support can help cancer patients strengthen body and mind during this challenging time. With individually tailored nutrition, plant-based remedies, and relaxation techniques, Ayurveda can help improve quality of life and alleviate side effects of cancer therapy.

In brief: Ayurveda can play a valuable supportive role during cancer therapy when measures are individually tailored and responsibly integrated into existing treatment.
