As a medicinal herb, the whole plant is used, excluding the roots. The herb can brighten mood, ease nervous restlessness, and relieve anxiety. Preparations made from St. John's Wort are approved as a plant-based medicine for mild to moderate depression, although this effect has not yet been conclusively proven by studies.
Women using hormonal contraception are advised against taking St. John's Wort.
Usage
St. John's Wort tea has a rather bitter taste. Do not steep the tea too long and add honey to taste if desired.
