Ashwagandha root is one of the most important tonics in Ayurveda and is very frequently used in the herbal science of Dravyaguna. Translated into English, the name roughly means "smell of the horse". In English, Ashwagandha is referred to as winter cherry.
Usage
Ashwagandha is a plant used as a tonic in Ayurvedic medicine. The dried and cut root is suitable, for example, for brewing into a tea, dissolving the active ingredients in warm ghee, or grinding it in a mortar and processing it into powder.

Efficacy According to Ayurveda
According to Ayurvedic teachings, spices and herbs help maintain the balance of the Doshas at a subtle energetic level. In Ayurveda, they are an important part of daily nutrition. They supply the body with sufficient secondary plant compounds and corresponding rasas and gunas (taste and properties of plants) and thereby harmonize digestion. However, they alone do not replace a healthy, balanced diet.
The mode of action of Ayurvedic herbs is based on traditional knowledge of Indian medicine and works at the level of the Doshas. Therefore, an effect in the sense of modern Western science is not claimed. In particular, the aspect of Dosha balance has no counterpart in our science, so there is no confirmation in the sense of Western science for the effects described in Ayurveda.
