Hawthorn is a valued medicinal herb traditionally used for teas. Its leaves and flowers contain valuable plant compounds.
Details
The leaves and flowers of hawthorn are used as a medicinal herb. They contain secondary plant compounds and flavonoids.
Hawthorn should be avoided during pregnancy.
Application
For a cup of hawthorn tea, pour approximately one to two teaspoons of the herb with hot water and let it steep for five minutes. For a heart-strengthening tea blend, mix hawthorn flowers with motherwort and lemon verbena.
Unlike other medicinal herbs, hawthorn tea can be consumed continuously; a six-week break is not necessary.
Allergic reactions or discomfort from consuming hawthorn are very unlikely. Should they occur, discontinue the tea immediately and, if necessary, consult your treating physician or naturopath.
