Pansy is a traditional medicinal herb and is popular as a tea or in herbal blends. It contains valuable secondary plant compounds.
Details
As a medicinal herb, the whole plant is typically used, meaning all plant parts except the roots. It contains salicylic acid and its derivatives, as well as mucilage, flavonoids, tannins, carotenoids, and coumarins. A wash made from it is used for skin problems in the diaper area. Please discuss the use of pansy for your small child with your midwife.
Application
For a wash, pansy is often used together with chamomile flowers to enhance the skin-soothing properties even further. For this, cook a generous pinch each of pansy and chamomile flowers with half a liter of water and let the mixture cool to a comfortable temperature.
For tea, you can prepare the pansy either as an infusion or as a cold infusion.
If you drink pansy tea daily, take a break after about six weeks. During the following six weeks, you can drink tea made from a similarly effective herb instead. This practice, which should be applied to all potent medicinal herbs, helps prevent habituation. Additionally, the break prevents unwanted long-term effects.
Should allergic reactions or discomfort occur, stop the tea immediately and consult your doctor or naturopath if necessary.
