details
Mandukaparni, the Indian pennywort or its botanical name Centella asiatica is a perennial plant that prefers swampy environments. The plant of tender, herbaceous growth with a stem that grows creeping on the ground, likes to grow in the vicinity of rice fields. The plant has both leaves and roots at the stem nodes. It makes small red to white flowers and oval to spherical fruits. The leaves are used in Ayurvedic nutrition. The finely and gently (below 40 °C) ground powder of the dried leaves comes from Indian and Sri Lankan fair trade and organic projects.
Mandukaparni, gotu kola or brahmi? Simply Centella!
Centella asiatica is also referred to as Brahmi in Ayurveda, which can lead to confusion with the other Brahmi herb Bacopa monniera. From an Ayurvedic point of view, this is not a problem as their effect is almost identical. More details about Brahmi in Ayurveda can be found in the blog article Brahmi - the plant of knowledge .
You can also get Centella asiatica as a powder from Miraherba or under its other name Gotu-Kola as Ayurvedic herbal capsules from Himalaya . As Centella, it finds application in Khadi's natural cosmetics, for example in Centella oil .
