Details

The whole herb is usually used as a medicinal plant, i.e. all parts of the plant except the root. It contains salicylic acid and its products, as well as mucilage, flavonoids, tannins, carotenoids and coumarins. The pansy is slightly anti-inflammatory. Washing with it is used for cradle cap or skin irritation in the diaper area. Discuss using pansies on your toddler with your midwife. In older children, stiffeners are used for mild skin diseases such as mild acne or eczema.

In tea, the pansy is said to have antioxidant, dehydrating and expectorant properties and also have a positive effect on the complexion. It is mainly used to stimulate the metabolism and is used in spring cures and for detoxification. It is also used as an ingredient in cough teas. However, these effects have not been proven by scientific studies.

For a wash, the pansy is often used together with chamomile flowers in order to intensify the soothing properties. To do this, boil a generous pinch of pansies and chamomile blossoms with half a liter of water and let the whole thing cool down to a comfortable temperature.

For the tea you can prepare the pansy either as an infusion or as a cold infusion.

If you drink pansy tea every day, take a break after about six weeks. For the next six weeks, you can drink tea made from a similar herb instead. This measure, which should be used with all powerful medicinal herbs, helps to prevent habituation. In addition, the pause prevents unwanted long-term effects.

If you develop allergic reactions or feel unwell, stop using the tea immediately and, if necessary, speak to your doctor or alternative practitioner.
