Red-stemmed, very decorative climbing plant with fleshy leaves, which is also suitable for growing on the balcony. Sowing in pots should be done indoors in mid-April, the seeds need high temperatures to germinate. It can be planted outdoors in full sun and sheltered from the wind at the earliest after the ice saints. The plants grow up to 3 meters high and a climbing aid such as for pole beans is required.

The leaves taste juicy, slightly sour and can be cooked, for example as an ingredient in wok dishes, or eaten raw in salads. The germination temperature should be at least 24°C.
