details
Meadowsweet might have been named for its use in mead, but also for the sweet scent of the white flowers that can scent a whole load of freshly mown hay. The medicinal plant contains precursor substances of salicylic acid. The pharmacist Felix Hoffmann was the first to obtain acetylsalicylic acid from this in 1897 – a painkiller that has been used for over a hundred years and is still widespread today.
The salicylic acid contained in meadowsweet has a slight anti-inflammatory effect, can relieve pain and reduce fever.
